As an important type of light stabilizers, ultraviolet absorbers (UVAs) are widelyused in polymer materials to reduce photoaging. However, the problem that traditionalUVAs can not be effective protection for polymer materials surface has not been solved.Aiming to overcome this shortcoming of traditional UVAs, based on benzophenone (BP)structure and the linear fluorocarbon alcohol as fluorined segment, novelfluorine-containing ultraviolet absorbers (FBP), which hopes to take advantage of thelow surface energy properties of fluorined segment to improve the UVA surfaceenrichment concentration at the polymer materials surface and finally achieve effectiveprotection for surface have been designed.①The target products of FBP were synthesized through two steps chemicalreactions based on parent molecule of2,4-dihydroxybenzophenone (UV-0), and themolecular structure of FBP were characterized by NMR, IR, MS. The results of UVabsorption spectrum analysis showed that the UV absorption capacity of FBP (ε=17000~22000L/(cm mol)) are superior to the parent molecule UV-0(ε=17000L/(cm mol)).②Using density functional theory (DFT) calculation method, the ground statestable structure of FBP were carried out with Gaussian09programs under the basis setof B3LYP/6-31G(d) level. Meanwhile, the excitated state energy of FBP were obtainedby using time-dependent density functional theory (TD DFT) calculation method withbasis set of B3LYP/6-31G+(d) and given the negligible effect of salvation on theelectronic structure. The calculated results showed that the UV absorption capacity ofFBP exceeds the parent molecule UV-0, which are consistent with the experimentalanalysis conclusions.③The low surface energy properties of FBP in high chlorinated polyethylene(HCPE) coating were characterized by XPS analysis and contact angle measurements.The analysis results showed that FBP have significant surface enrichment capabilitycompared with traditional UVAs and the ability is directly relative to fluorine content.④The influence of FBP on the coating anti-aging properties was analyzed by theXenon lamp accelerated aging testing. The results showed that FBP can effectivelyprevent the aging of the coating surface in the early stage and the protective effect isbetter than that of traditional UVA.
