The controllable spark-induced combustion and electrical discharge milling machining is aneffective non-traditional machining method, which is featured with high material removal rate andrelative electrode wear rate. This paper investigates its mechanism, processing patterns and cavityprocessing basing on predecessors’ research in controllable spark-induced combustion and electricaldischarge milling machining, and the main work is listed as follows:(1)New equipment is made basing on the original spark-induced combustion device. The beltdriving device is changed with synchronous belt and more powerful motor to make the rotation morestable. The original tool electrode is replaced with a thicker one which is stiffer to perform millingprocess. The rotary part structure is also altered to improve the whole device’s impermeability.(2)This paper builds the controllable spark-induced combustion and electrical discharge millingmachining model, investigates the combustion processing stage in controllable spark-inducedcombustion and electrical discharge milling machining, analyzes the roles of the discharging andoxygen flow in the birth of combustion stage, development and termination, and explores surfacetopography and elements components on work-piece. Some factors on controllable spark-inducedcombustion and electrical discharge milling machining are also analyzed, as well as the oxygen flow’seffect on relative electrode wear rate with simulation analysis.(3)Aiming to lower the relative electrode wear rate and the surface roughness, the factors whichcould impact the two indicators are studied in experiment.(4)Basing on strategy of layered milling, this paper carries on experiments on controllablespark-induced combustion and electrical discharge milling machining in cavity-machining bytrimming electrode and tool setting electrode compensation method at specified times.
