Lignin, as a environment friendly, inexpensive and reproducible polymer, can bemodified through methanol, this method can increase interaction with polarity rubber but abad consistency and reinforcement for nonpolarity rubber. In this paper, hydroxymethyl lignin(HML) was choosed and modified by bis (triethoxysilylpropyl) tetrasulfide (TESPT) becauseof the existence of hydroxymethyl and phenolic hydroxyl group, reinforcement mechanismwas studied and results showed that TESPT can effectively increase consistency andreinforcement between HML and nonpolarity rubber. On this basis, CB or Silica was partiallysubstituted by HML and the effect of different filler system on various properties of SBR/BRcomposite was studied.T-HML was firstly synthesized and characterized through the reaction between TESPTand HML. The results showed that a C O Si bond was generated and S and Si were graftedon the surface of HML through the reaction of hydroxyl, T HML has smaller particle size andlower water absorption relative to the HML, so that there was not weightlessness peak within100℃. Then the effect of TESPT contents on SBR/BR composite filled with50phr HMLwas studied through in situ modification, vulcanized rubber had optimum mechanicalproperties while the TESPT dosage is four.On the basis of remaining the same hardness, the effect of fillers with uniform surfacecharacteric on various properties of vulcanized rubber was studied, which Silica was partiallysuperseded by HML. The results showed that Payne effect had decreased howeverwear resisting property increased because the reunion of silica particles were obstructed afteradding HML, three kinds of filler network were formed in rubber matrix due to reactionbetween HML or silica and TESPT. The content of bound rubber, tensile strength, rollingresistance and wet resistance had drop before rising with the more Silica substitution of HML.Further, the effect of fillers with different surface characteric on various properties ofvulcanized rubber was studied, which CB was partially replaced by HML. The results showedthat the filler network, Payne effect and rolling resistance had decreased obviously whileHML and TESPT were simultaneously increased. Meanwhile, the content of bound rubberand tensile strength and wear resisting property had declined after rising first, furthermorevulcanized rubber had optimum mechanical properties while the HML/CB ratio is one.
