Coal is the main energy in China. The damage caused by coal mine account forthe largest part in all kinds of mine disasters. In order to prevent disasters, we need tomake deep research into the adsorption of gas by coal. However, the content of coalseam gas is expressed in the macro result. Few studies have been found to study theability of adsorption in a micro way. In this paper, five different metamorphic gradesof coal samples are chosen. The maceral concentrates of the five samples are made.Pore surface characteristics and surface functional groups are studied and theadsorption of methane gas in the process of trace heating value of them wasdetermined, showing the ability of adsorption of concentrates in a micro manner. This article obtained highly purified maceral concentrates by hand selection andcentrifuging. The ranking of four coal samples is identified according to proximateanalysis, caking index and maximum thickness of gelatine layer. The results ofspecific surface area, total pore volume and average pore size are got by using lowtemperature nitrogen adsorption experiment. The result showed that the specificsurface area, total pore volume and average pore size of Inertinite concentrate (IC) hasa higher value than that of Vitrinite concentrate (VC). Infrared spectrum experimentshowed that the number and percentage of main functional groups on the surface ofVitrinite concentrate (VC) and Inertinite concentrate (IC) were different. After the theline of the second derivative peak area and peak resolution processing, the distributionand proportion of each functional group in their respective surface were got. This article discussed the pros and cons of various experimental conditions, fromthe choice of the stripping gas, the choice of flow rate of carrier gas,the choice ofparticle size of coal samples, the choice of experimental temperature, and finally theexperimental scheme is determined. We used C80micro calorimeter to measure theadsorption heat value of maceral concentrates and the accurate data is obtained. Theresult showed that the heat flow of Vitrinite concentrate (VC) are higher than that ofInertinite concentrate (IC), which illustrated ability and trend of adsorption ofVitrinite and Inertinite in a micro way. The relation between two concentrates andpore characteristic show different trend with the change of coal ranking. The dutrexand aliphatic hydrocarbon are more easily to adsorb methane.
