Molybdenum disulfide(MoS2) is a typical layered transition metal sulfide withstrong bonding within the layers and weak interlayer interactions and exhibitsexcellent properties in catalysis and lubrication, which have received considerableattention in recent years. Furthermore, nanosized molybdenum disulfide has a largersurface areashowing good adsorption properties, so the MoS2can be used as a noveladsorbent in the field of treatment of wastewater pollution problems. It has a veryimportant significance to explore a new adsorbent with high adsorption capacity andefficiency for removal of industrial pollutants from water, providing the basis forChina’s water pollution control. In this study, MoS2nanosheets were synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method. The morphology and size of the samples can be controlled by varying the reactionconditions. We used a variety of techniques to characterize the samples and studied theadsorption properties. The specific work as follows:①MoS2nanosheets have been synthesized successfully by using sodiummolybdate, elemental sulfur powders as the precursor in hydrazine solution through asimple hydrothermal method. X-ray diffraction patterns and Raman spectra indicatedthe MoS2nanosheets were purehexagonal2H-MoS2with well-layered structures.②We studied the operation conditions such as the different ratios of reactants, hydrothermal time and reaction temperature on the influence of molybdenum disulfidemorphology, the results show that a relatively uniform sheet-like nano-MoS2structurecan be prepared at those conditions for the hydrothermal reaction temperature of200℃,hydrothermal time of50h, the molybdenum sulfur atom ratio of1:3. We analyzed thepossible formation mechanism of molybdenum disulfide.③The BET test results the MoS2nanosheets has a larger surface area and thesamples has mesoporous structure.④Studied the MoS2nanosheets adsorption performance while used the methylorange as model. Discussed the operation factors such as the adsorption time, adsorbentdosage, solution pH and the initial concentration of methyl orange on the influence ofMoS2nanosheets adsorption capacity. The results showed that the optimum adsorptionconditions of MoS2nanosheets were as follows: adsorbent dosage was0.015g, initialconcentration of methyl orange was20mg/L, adsorption time was70min, pH value was6.5. MoS2nanosheets adsorption capacity toward methyl orange is0.426mol/kgunder this condition. This indicates that the MoS2nanosheets might have potential wideapplications in adsorbent for the removal of anionic dye in wastewater.
