Topology dimensional continuous ceramic/metal matrix composite material is aco-continuous composite material, in which the three-dimensional topology ofcontinuous ceramic phase and a metal phase are continuously distributed, and theycross each other with a high bonding strength. The co-continuous composite materialcombines the advantage of ceramic phase and metal, which is high hardness, highwear resistance, good ductility metal phase and high-strength. it can be used inaerospace, wear, ballistic protection and other fields.In this paper, silicon carbide ceramic foam/aluminum matrix composites wasprepared by squeeze casting, high-silicon aluminum alloy Al-xSi (x=20~23) usedas the metal substrate. This paper studies processing content including the preparationof silicon carbide ceramic foam, production of composite materials and compositematerials wear resistance.First, silicon carbide ceramic foam was preparation by the use of organic foamimpregnation and vacuum liquid phase sintering technology. Al2O3-SiO2acts assintering aids, the strength and porosity of silicon carbide ceramic foam canreasonable control through adjusting the ratio of silicon carbide ceramic powder andsintering processes. The result was shown that the viscosity of the ceramic paste isimproved by adding the amount of additive which is0.06%PAM and0.2%CMC. thesolids content of the slurry is suitable for enrobed65%.pretreatment of organic foamis also crucial for hanging. The biscuit sintered in a vacuum sintering furnace.Analyzing the ratio of ceramic material, sintering temperature and holding time todetermine the best parameter which is the silicon carbide content of35%,1600℃and4h holding time. the compressive strength of samples M35is4.63±0.2MPa andporosity of76.19%.Then the composite was prepared by squeeze casting, researching factor ofsolidification microstructure of the composite, such as pouring temperature, mold temperature and injection pressure. The result was shown that analyzing the phasediagram of the solidification can be found when the pouring temperature is750℃, theinterface of composite is poor, when the pouring temperature is750~780℃, theinterface is fine. Therefore good condition of ceramic matrix reinforced alloy is thatpouring temperature is the range of780~810℃, injection pressure is25~40MPa andmold preheat temperature is650~680℃. when the pouring temperature is780℃,thesolidification of alloy mixed equiaxed dendrite with the large rose columnar structure;when casting temperature is810℃, the size of grain is increasing.Finally, composite wear ability was tested by wear machine. The experimentalparameters include the load, sliding distance and speed. The results showed that thesilicon carbide ceramic foam/aluminum composite wear resistance compared with thebase material has been greatly improved. its wear resistance and features of use canmatch the needs of brake pads, it can be more likely used in brake pads area.
