Abstract/Summary:
With the development of Functionally Graded Material (FGM), many new kinds of gradedmaterial were proposed for special purposes. Among these new materials, Metal Graded Material(MGM), which is to introduce material gradient into load-supporting structure design, has becomeone of the most attractive research topics in aviation industry recently. Because of the differencesbetween MGM and general FGM in material designing and research emphasis, there should be athorough understanding of its mechanical property before its application. In this essay, sometentative research on MGM was done mainly in the aspect of structural experiment and specialelement establishment.First of all, a series of traction and three-point-bending experiments was designed with thespecimens of MGM structures. Based on the experiment, failure modes of the specimens werestudied and loading data was achieved, all of which are foundation of strength and crack growthanalysis and element establishment. Then, after deriving the theoretical solution of stress field for graded material problems, aspecial hybrid finite element was established based on the revised complementary energy principle. The special element was focused on problems involving material gradient or layers of gradedmaterial. By comparing with existing methods, the validity and the high-efficiency of the newelement was proved. Finally, based on the hybrid element, some discussions were made on the influence of structuralparameters and gradient parameters on stress field and on stress concentration. And, somemeaningful conclusions had been drawn.
