Titanium alloy is a kind of difficult-to-cut material while it is widely used aerospace industry.Titaniumalloy workpieces for aerospace vehicles are main bearing members and their structures are alsocomplicated. High expense of cutting tools, low machining efficiency and unstable machining accuracyseriously restrict the application of titanium alloy in the aerospace industry. In this paper, TC4and TC4-DTtitanium alloys were as the research objects, and high performance milling technology for Ti-alloy pocketstructures was deeply studied through carrying out fundamental experiments of high feed milling, analysisand optimization of NC machining program and validation of milling process by machining typicalstructures. The main research works are as follows:(1) Based on the fundamental experiments in high feed milling TC4and TC4-DT titanium alloys,the effects of the cutting speed and feed per tooth on cutting force, cutting temperature and chip macromorphology were investigated. A reference range of cutting parameters in high feed milling of titaniumalloy was suggested.(2) Through systemly analyzing the traditional NC machining program for high feed milling oftitanium alloy, the problems such as low program operation efficiency, fast tool wear and poor machiningstability were found. According to these problems, the program trajectory optimization method, dry runningprogram optimization and state stability optimization method were put forward.(3) According to the analysis of typical structure characteristics of the aircraft parts, a slot and cavityspecimen with these characteristics was designed and test experiment was carried out on this specimen.High performance machining parameters and technical solutions for milling aerospace part were obtained.Then the technology was used to machine typical aeroplane parts in actural production and the expectedeffect was reached.
