With the development of technology, a large amount of new materials and new structural partsappear, especially the application of sophisticated, complex, thin-walled or overall component ofhigh-temperature alloys, high-strength steel and titanium alloys. The forming, shaped holes and deepholes process of these materials are facing great challenge. Using the traditional machining hasbecome more difficult and the use of non-traditional machining also has the problem of machiningefficiency.The combined machining of EDM-induced ablation and turning dressing is a new combinedmachining method. It combines the ablation induced by EDM which has high efficiency with turningwhich has better surface quality. This new processing method can get better machining effect that thesingle processing method can not achieve. It provides a new idea to solve the manufacturing problemof difficult-to-cut materials. The main content of this paper is as follows:(1) Reform the existing experimental machine, including machine insulation, work-piececlamping, electric device and so on. Optimization design and produce two feed device ofcombustion-inducing electrode and mechanical dressing tool.(2) Introduce the principle and characteristic of combined machining of EDM-induced ablationand turning dressing. Analysis the mechanism of combined machining, including inducing mechanism,combustion mechanism and turning dressing mechanism. The controllable blasting philosophy basedon intake system full of quantitative high pressure and low combustion-supporting gas is proposed.Then the characteristic of combined machining based on controllable blasting is analyzed throughprocessing speed and surface quality.(3) The stability of combined machining of EDM-induced ablation and turning dressing isexplored. The shape, motion state and feed rate of electrode are analyzed to research the influence onmachining stability.(4) The section of electrode and tool in combined machining are studied in the machining oftitanium alloy, and analyze the influence of different gas medium which contains oxygen, nitrogenand air on the machining efficiency and surface quality.
