With the competition of LNG and Domestic LPG, the main consumer focus ofimport LPG will gradually transfer to chemical raw materials in the future. Many lowtemperature storage terminals were built to receive import LPG in china. Heatexchanger is one of the core equipments of those terminals. Now open rack sea waterheat exchanger becomes the best choice in these large LPG storage terminals alongthe Chinese costal because of using local sea water as heat source, handling massLPG flow, easy to adapt to working load, reliable and convenient operation. The basic unit of open rack sea water heat exchanger is finned tube. Manyfinned tubes line up to form a tube plate, and some tube plates form a heat exchanger. The heated fluid enter the lower intake pipeline, and go upward to the top outletpipeline. When sea water sprays down from the top of exchanger and is welldistributed along the wall of tube plate, heat is passed from sea water to heated flow.It is easy to change the heat load by changing the sea water spray flow. The purposeof this paper is to improve the performance of heat exchanger in LPG terminal, andtry to reduce the overall size of heat exchanger under the normal process conditions.By using the basic heat transfer formula Q=UA, this paper works outthe heat loads, heat transfer temperature difference, heat transfer surface and overallcoefficient of heat exchanger. This paper is to design a new type of finned tube bycomparing to the original finned tube. And the new design can meet the demand ofincreasing overall coefficient of heat exchanger and reducing the overall size of heatexchanger.Conduct an experiment to compare the new type with original finned tubes, and use fluid simulation software to simulate the heat transfer process to verify thatthe new design finned tube can reach the heat exchanger capacity.
