In recent years, using the iron ore to manufacture DRI by rotary hearth furnace and direct reduction has been used in many countries. High quality of iron ore, the output of our country was small. But some low quality of iron ore reserves in China is larger, and the ore using be taken seriously. Limonite is a common and low quality iron ore, limonite of Inner Mongolia baotou region total iron content is30%~40%, the main ingredients are Fe2O3、FeO、SiO2、CaO, and a small amount of free water, crystal water. The main treatment method is processing and sintering, high cost of energy consumption, there is a very serious pollution, and the ore utilization ratio is low. Therefore, we used the limonite to manufacture iron nuggets by direct reduction to overcome the above shortcomings, get iron nuggets. For the rational utilization of Inner Mongolia baotou region of limonite resources provides a new technology, and it’s also the further development of the production of DRI. According to a lot of tests showed that when the temperature of the pellets was1200℃~1400℃, within the scope of a certain temperature and heat preservation time, slag and iron natural separation will happen after cooling, the reduction rate of iron was the highest at this time. Our experiment studied the C/O, pulverized coal and limonite powder granularity, the temperature and holding time on the reduction rate and the effects of the melting and find the parameters of high quality steel materials production process.Our experiments used Inner Mongolia baotou region of a limonite powder and coal powder to manufacture carbon-containing pellets, through the reduction of high temperature melting to get iron bead. To understand the C/O, particle size, temperature, holding time on the influence of direct reduction and melting. The results showed temperature and holding time was the main influencing factors of direct reduction rate and the effect of melting. Sample pellets with carbon C/O=1.1, limonite powder and coal particle size were0.048mm (320mesh), the temperature was1370℃,and heating time was5min, the reduction rate was highest, slag and iron separation effect was good, and the slag pulverized to nature after cooling. By late component testing, The iron nuggets can be used as a kind of steelmaking feed.
