Copper and its alloys are used widely in marine environments such as heatexchanger tube and pipeline due to their excellent thermal conductivity, goodmachinability, good corrosion resistance, processing propertym, weldability and inhibitadhesion of marine microorganisms. Marine environment is a kind of aggressive media, copper and its alloys corrode easily in chloride containing aqueous solution especiallypitting corrosion. This may cause enormous economic loss and serious safety hazards,so it is necessary to investigate the anticorrosion behavior of copper and its alloys inseawater. In this paper, the corrosion behavior of H63brass in3.5%NaCl solution treated byrotating electromagnetic field is investigated by electrochemical experiments based onthe influence of rotating electromagnetic field on water quality of3.5%NaCl solution. At the same time, surface morphologies and phase components of H63brass whichcorrode in3.5%NaCl are also tested analysed. The inhibition mechanism of rotatingelectromagnetic field on the corrosion behavior of brass is revealed.Effect of rotating electromagnetic field on corrosion thermodynamics anddynamics of H63brass in3.5%NaCl solution is studied by polarization curves. Theresults show that corrosion tendency of H63brass in3.5%NaCl solution is reducedtreated by100Hz for12h and memorized by100Hz for12h. The corrosion rate of H63brass in treated3.5%NaCl solution is slowed down obviously by rotatingelectromagnetic field. The minimum corrosion rate of H63brass in3.5%NaCl solutionduring treatment stage and memory phase are150Hz treating for3h and150Hzmemoring6h respectively. The best inhibition efficiency of83.60%is obtained when3.5%NaCl solution is treated by rotating electromagnetic field. The corrosion morphologies on the surface of specimen in treated3.5%NaClsolution show tendency of general corrosion and are uniform compared with those inuntreated3.5%NaCl solution; the corrosion products of H63brass in treated3.5%NaClsolution has a more phase CuCl compared with those in untreated3.5%NaCl solutionfrom analyse of surface morphologies and phase components after corrosion.Effect of rotating electromagnetic field on electrode process of H63brass in3.5%NaCl solution is studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The results showthat the equivalent circuit diagram of EIS is composed by three units in series, and thethree units are resistance Rs, constant phase angle element Qdland resistor Rpoinparallel and constant phase angle element Qdland resistor Rpoin parallel respectively;the parameters of elements such as solution resistance Rs, charge transfer resistance Rpoand constant phase angle element Qoxare changed by rotating electromagnetic field and these affect corrosion rate of H63brass in3.5%NaCl solution.
