Tetrathiafulvalene(TTF) and it’s derivatives have been widely studied in the research fields ofmaterial chemistry, nano technology and supramolecular chemistry, because they present tworeversible redox potential. Recently, the material scientists are interested in obtaining organic/inorganic hybrid materials that combine the modified TTF organic donors with the transition-metalions. In this work, we based on the TTF-Py system that the TTF unit directly conjugated withpyridine group and have both redox property and metal coordination property. And some relatedcompounds were synthesized and characterized. The major studies are as follows:1. In introduction, the properties and important achievements of TTF derivatives are reviewedbriefly. Recent researches on TTF-Py are summarized. Then we have a good knowledge of thenew progresses for TTF-Py system.2. New compound4-(2-ethylenedithiotetrathiafulvalene)pyridine)(EDT-TTF-4-py) has beensynthesized as a ligand coordinate to transition metals. And two related compounds have beensynthesized by solution process. Moreover, we both got the micro-crystal and bulk crystal, and weprove they have the same constitute through a series of characterization. Then the magnetism hasbeen investigated.3. A new metal complexes, Cu(dipic)2(EDO-TTF-4-py)(dipic=pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate),has been synthesized by use of EDT-TTF-4-py as organic donor coordinate to [Cu(dipic)]. Thestructure of the complex has been characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. And themolecular structure and the intermolecular interactions of the compound have been studied. Thenthe electrochemistry, UV-vis spectrum and magnetism also have been investigated.4.2,6(7)-Bis(3-pyridyl)-1,4,5,8-tetrathiafulvalene(3-Py-TTF-3-Py) has been synthesized.Electrochemical responses of the compound to H+cation and the corresponding UV-vis spectrahave been studied. The structure of a protonated compound has been determined and analysised.
