TIG welding can be used in precision welding and high-quality welding occasion, which can obtain high quality weld and has been extensively used in production. But under the conventional welding parameters, Single-layer welding can usually get smaller penetration, for thicker sheet or tube, when the welding need to groove and to add a lot of filler material; So the process is more complex, and the production cost is high, the production efficiency is low.Activating flux TIG (A-TIG) welding, is a variant of the TIG process, which can significantly increase weld penetration by applying a thin coating of flux onto the joint surface of base metal prior to welding, the penetration is increased more than1-2times compared with the conventional TIG welding, the fully penetration can be got in a single pass, which reduces cost and improves the production efficiency.In this paper,5mm,8mm,10mm,12mm X6CrNiTi1810stainless steel as experimental material. For5mm stainless steel plate, Researches have been carried out in this paper on the differences between A-TIG and TIG in the Welding process, weld mechanical properties, chemical composition, microstructure, X-ray inspection. And, in turn, A-TIG welding experiments are implemented to8mm,10mm,12mm stainless steel plate, and T-joint test was implemented for8mm stainless steel plate.The test results indicate that under the same welding process, the penetration is increased more than1-2times compared with the conventional TIG welding; the weld defect can be reduced by A-TIG progress. A-TIG can strengthen the tensile strength and plasticity of the weld, but it does n’t change the microstructure and the nature of the fracture and anti-erode performance. For8mm Tee joint, in the case of doesn’t open groove, on both sides of the welding to achieve on both sides of the pool.
