Polymer materials becomes one of the most widely used material due to its plasticity,lightweight, and inexpensive features. However, most of the polymer materials with limitingoxygen index (LOI) less than21are combustible, causing heavy casualties and propertylosses each year. Therefore, development of polymer materials with flame retardancy is ofgreat significance.The condensation reaction of p-hydroxybenzaldehyde with1,5-Naphthalenediamineproduces Schiff base, followed by the addition with9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-p-hosphaphenan-threne10-oxide (DOPO) to obtain the phosphorus-containing flame retardantBis-N-[1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-1-(9-hydro-9-oxa-10-p-hosphaphenanthrene10-oxide)-1,5-Nap-hthalenediamine (R). The structure of R was characterized by NMR and FTIR. R was testedas co-curing agents of NDA for epoxy resins, and the flame-retardant performance andthermo-stability of cured epoxy resin was investigated. The result shows that the introductionof R increases the flame retardant of the cured products. When the phosphorus contentreached1.5wt%, the epoxy resin system can meet the UL-94V-0classification and thelimiting oxygen index (LOI) was38.2. However, the thermo-stability of the cured epoxy resindeclined with the increase of phosphorus content.Appropriate samples were screened for low ignition propensity cigarette flame fromcommon flame retardants and easily decomposed materials. Adopting the coating method,flame retardant is attached to the cigarette tipping paper. After the first small scale coatingexperiments, the sample, having flame-retardant is chosen for factories amplificationexperiments to study the impact on quality and producing process of cigarette by adding itinto cigarette holder adhesive so as to determine the appropriate sample X、Y for productionof low ignition-propensity cigarette.
