The study of functional complexes has gone deep in many areas. The metalcomplexes of derivatives of imidazole and thiazole have great significance and goodapplication prospect in biological activity, luminescent materials, catalysis, magneticand chemical sensors. In this paper, Cr(II), Cd(II), Cu(II) and Ni(II) complexes (1-6) based on2-(2-pyridyl)imidazole,2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole and2-(2-pyridyl)benzothiazolewere synthesized. The crystal structures of these complexes were characterized byelemental analysis and X ray diffraction analyses, and their their luminescentproperties were studied by UV-vis spectra and fluorescence spectra. The interaction of complexes3-6with CT-DNA was investigated by UVspectroscopic and fluorescence techniques and viscosity measurements. Resultsevaluated the binding affinity of complexes3-6to CT-DNA by UV and presentedbinding constants (Kb) of5.0778104M-1、1.9289105M-1、9.1918104M-1、3.8628105M-1, respectively. The complexes can probably bind to CT-DNA via anon-intercalative mode as concluded by studying the viscosity of a DNA solution inthe presence of the complexes, and this combination can effectively break DNA,which indicated that these complexes could interact with the DNA of cancer cells viathis binding mode and play a role in cancer cells causing DNA damage, leading to theobstacles in the process of replication and transcription in the DNA of cancer cells, thereby preventing cancer cell growth and division, leading to the death of cancercells. So the studies of the interaction of DNA-complexes have broad prospects fordesign anticancer drug.
