The cutting on ceramic materials has been the difficulty of traditional cutting, with therapid development of special processing methods, which providing new methods for theprocessing of ceramic materials, of which laser processing of ceramics is particularlyconcerned. Laser processing ceramics have certain advantages, having solved some of theproblems of traditional ceramic processing, but there are recast layer, heat-affected zone,thermal cracking and other issues, thereby introducing composite laser processing methods.This paper uses the advantages of low-pressure water jets and laser complex processing, andalso applied to the ceramic cutting, expecting to improve the quality of ceramic cutting. Onthe one hand kinetic energy of the water jet erosion slag, greatly reducing the thickness of therecast layer; on the other hand, the cooling effect of the water jet may also reduce the thermalcracking. The following shows specific research work:This paper first discussed the principle of water jet and laser cutting ceramic, and usedthe principle of conservation of momentum in physics to analyze water jet velocity on themolten material removal mechanism. Analyzed the affecting factors of water jet and lasercutting ceramic qaulity. By experimental study on water jet and laser cutting ceramics,analyzed the distribution of slag surface of the processing parameters on cutting Al2O3ceramic with composite cutting, measuring kerf width of the composite cutting, focused onthe distribution of slag and the influence of slit width under the water jet with compositecutting, and found within a certain speed range of water jet flow rate, the greater the erosionof the role, the less slag; and aslso found that the influence of the water jet velocity on kerfwidth is not obvious, only with the lower water jet flow rates, the cooling effect is poor whichshowed wide kerf. By studying the recast layer thickness of the factors with water jet andlaser cutting on Al2O3ceramic, with the above experimental study of composite cutting onAl2O3ceramic, comprehensively analyzed the adjustment range of water jet and laserparameters. Through a lot of experiments on the basis of the above, choose the appropriatefactor level values, using orthogonal experiment method, the Al2O3ceramic recast layerthickness was optimized to get the best technology solution, when the pulse width of1.0ms,current of300A, the laser repetition frequency of45Hz, the scanning speed of the lasercutting0.8mm/s, flow rate of the water jet12m/s, obtaining a relatively small thickness of therecast layer.
