Biomedical materials are artificial or natural materials, used to replace or revise the lost or diseased biological structure to restore their function. The hard tissue implant materials is used to replace and revise the bone and so on. Titanium alloys are widely used in clinic as hard tissue implant materials. Because the titanium alloys are non-toxic, low density, low modulus of elasticity, anticorrosion and Good biocompatibility. But the biological activity of titanium alloys is bad. the property of titanium makes it difficult to bind with surrounding tissues and the fibrous tissue. It will cause inflammation and failure of implants. So the surface modification is very important. The silica xerogel system is an attractive material to apply to titanium alloy substrates, sol-gel derived silica xerogels are known to have excellent bioactivity and exhibit chemical bonding to the surrounding tissues, particularly bone. However, silica xerogels have one serious problem in that they undergo severe cracking during processing. Chitosan, a kind of polysaccharide, has been widely applied in biomedical applications because of its cell compatibility, biodegradability and non-toxic antibiotic film-forming ability characteristics. The hybrid sols bone bioactivity and in vitro cell responses. The controlled delivery ability is very important to improve the antibacterial properties. The release behavior is related to the preparation conditions of the composite films. So in this article we study the influence about various preparation conditions. The addition of HCl, aging conditions, the chitosan content, and the molecular weight of chitosan have an effect on release behavior of the chitosan/SiO2composite films. In this study, we prepare a uniform film. It is no cracking and has a good release properties.
