According to the characteristics of lignite with high water content and high volatile, combined with the distribution of lignite in China, selected the lignite of Inner Mongolia Xilinhaote Shengli Coalfield No.2East open pit coal mine as the research object. Through the analysis of coal quality, we knew that the raw lignite has characteristics of developed pore structure, high oxygen content, oxygen containing functional group, and easy moisture get damp, spontaneous combustion. Through the test of aluminium retort, TG, bed resistance etc., that compared with the raw coal, the temperature of pyrolysis, ignition and maximum weight loss rate of the volatile were increased, but the temperature of burnout only has little change, suggested that by pyrolysis, the thermal stability of lignite was increased and the combustion performance was improved. Through the comparison of characteristics of coal and coke, we knew that the change laws of physics and chemistry during low temperature pyrolysis of lignite. Through the comprehensive analysis of the experimental data, we drew a conclusion that the drying process of lignite were mainly occurred at about80℃, and time is short, but the pyrolysis mainly start from375℃, end to550℃, and is a long process, lasts about40minutes, and thus improved the process route of lignite upgrading, improved the design of the pyrolysis furnace according to the characteristics of the sample of coal, to improve the application level of upgrading technology.
