Process simulation technology is a new technology which integrated by processtechnology, engineering technology and computer technology. By using thistechnology, it’s easy to simulate and construct the entire equipment of productionprocess from the perspective of the entire system device, improve the productionprocess and operations from the subtle details, get a better understanding and analysisof the production process and prediction of the problems which may be generatedduring the production process. A lot of manpower and material resources consumedby the experiment which to explore the optimum working conditions were saved.Therefore, it is efficient to optimize the equipment of production, parse process,optimize the production conditions and improve yield effectively.Fermentation process not only involves both bioengineering and chemicalengineering but also considers biological growth process’s stability, adaptability andprocess conditions. With process simulation technology, people simulate the realprocess of fermentation and its operation and control in a virtual environment byselecting the appropriate device or establishing a mathematical model. The technologyprovides opportunities for repeated practice of engineering, helps people build projectawareness and be familiar with the conditions of fermentation process, improve theability of processing problems which in actual fermentation process. In this paper,simulate the process with150L fermentation device of penicillin in laboratory offermentation plant by using process simulation software UniSim Design R400. Themain work is as follows.(1) First, make a research on the principle and process of penicillin fermentation,determine the structure of penicillin fermentation, combine with the monitoring andcontrol requirements about fermentation yielding to determine the processrequirements of penicillin fermentation, provide the basis for building process flowdiagram of penicillin fermentation.(2) Select non-structural dynamics model about the cell, product, substrate andvolume which is suitable for simulation software UniSim Design R400to runcalculations. Choose the optimal model parameters by use of Gravitational searchalgorithm and determine a mathematical model of the penicillin fermentation.(3) Then, based on the actual condition of plant equipment, select the equipmentmodel and estimate device size of fermentation with process simulation software, design the size for each device initially (mainly about valves, pipes and fermenter). Inthe dynamic simulation environment, the various device parameters is adjusted furtherbased on the material conditions of input and output ports in analog run. Determinethe size of each device by considering the equipment in reality.(4) Next, set up the process flow diagram of the Penicillin fermentation, build theinitialization module, the feed medium module and fermentation tank moduleaccording to the idea of sequential modular approach, import mathematical modelaccording to the idea of simultaneous equations method and then simulate the processof penicillin fermentation. And verify the feasibility of process simulation techniquesin the fermentation process by comparing the simulated data with sample data oftarget values.(5) At last, through changing the initial conditions, setting up equipment failureor implementing different control strategies to research the conditions of penicillinfermentation further more.For the model parameters of penicillin fermentation, using gravitational searchalgorithm to estimate and then simplify the penicillin fermentation model further. Inthe process simulation of penicillin fermentation, bacteria, substrate and product suchas target values’ trends in basic agreement of actual production situation, this meansthat the use of process simulation software to simulate real penicillin fermentationprocess. Meanwhile penicillin fermentation process PFD has been built for furtherstudy on working condition, which is easy for people to predict problems that may beencountered in actual experimental or production, to help people respond tounexpected produce situations effectively, to improve the operation and control offermentation systems.
