Acetaldehyde is an important raw material for the synthesis of organic chemical products. With the increase of demand for acetaldehyde and production capacity of acetaldehyde unit, theemissions of acetaldehyde wastewater increased. For the complex composition, dischargingacetaldehyde wastewater directly will cause serious pollution. In this paper, a comprehensiveanalysis of organic pollutants in acetaldehyde wastewater was conducted and a optimized newanalytical methods was established. The research results can be used as a reference method foracetaldehyde wastewater quality monitoring, and provide a reliable basis for wastewatertreatment. In addition it may also be used to reflect the removal effect of the organiccontaminants during processing. The wastewater was acidification with pH3.3. It contained lots of dissolved organiccarbon but little dissolved organic nitrogen. The SUVA was0.0014which shown a low degreeof aromatization in the wastewater; The results of ultrafiltration and resin separation ofacetaldehyde wastewater showed that the organics in acetaldehyde wastewater was mainlymade of the fraction with molecular weight <1kDa and occupy a proportion of82%; Thewastewater had three distinct fluorescence peaks nearby λex/λem=245/420nm,320/360nm,325/410nm, separately. The fluorescence organic matter in the wastewater was mainlyhydrophobic bases.Liquid-liquid extraction and purge and trap was selected as the pretreatment method. Andthe organic pollutants in acetaldehyde wastewater were comprehensively analysed by GC/MS.The operating conditions and chromatographic conditions were optimized. The qualitativeanalysia results showed that the acetaldehyde wastewater mainly contained aldehydes, alcohols, ketones, furans, pyridines, olefins, aromatics, organic acids and so on.The method of analysis for semi-volatile organic compounds by Liquid-liquid extractionGC/MS, ethanol and acetaldehyde by purge and trap GC/MS, acetic acid by ionchromatography was established. Concentration and the peak area of each component had agood linear correlation within the linear range. The method precision, detection limit andrecovery could meet the analytical requirements. These methods appeared to be rapid andaccuracy to quantify the organotins in acetaldehyde wastewater.
