Thesis is devoted to the synthesis of compounds which potentially possess pharmacological activities. It is divided into parts:(1) the synthesis of amantadine analogues from diamantane; and (2) the synthesis of imidacloprid analogues from heterocyclic ketene aminals.Thanks to their unique physical and chemical properties, adamantane derivatives have shown great importance in drug discovery, material science, aeronautics, astronautics and other fields. In order to further investigate the chemistry of adamantane and to build compound libraries for drug screening, we have synthesized several amantadine analogues based on diamantane. Employing neat bromine as reagents, regioselective halogenation of diamantane has been achieved by change of reaction conditions. The desired compounds was then synthesized by further chemical transformations including methylation, hydroxylation, carboxylation and amination in good to excellent.Imidacloprid is an efficient and low toxic pesticides, it has been used all over the world. In order to build compound libraries of imidacloprid derivatives for screening new insecticides, this thesis has synthesized a series of novel heterocyclic compounds which may posses insecticidal property, via the reactions of heterocyclic ketene aminals with6-chloro-3-methylenepyridine.This thesis has synthesized more than twenty new compounds which haven been fully characterized by IR,1NMR,13CNMR, MS and other spectroscopic methods.
