The present dissertation develops a composite lead dioxide electrode on iron matrix. The preparation conditions and the performances of the prepared electrodes were studied. A fabrication technology of double face electrode for pilot test are designed and studied.Since the adhesion of lead dioxide electrode on iron matrix is the most important factor, we developed a method to examine the adhesion of this brittle electrode in the light of the test measure of coatings. The effect of various pretreatments on adhesion was studied. Results show that a Fe3O4film formed on the iron base through anodic oxidation in alkaline solution considerably increases the adhesion of PbO2to iron. This dissertation also studied the effect of preparation process of the β-PbO2and α-PbO2on the property of the electrodes.An optimized technology to prepare a β-PbO2layer of good adhesion and a α-PbO2layer of fine grain and high discharge voltage was obtained. Study results reveals that β-PbO2layer has better adhesion while α-PbO2layer has better electrochemical activity in perchloric acid solution. So a composite electrode of Fe/Fe3O4/β-PbO2/α-PbO2integrating excellent adhesion and electrochemical performance was developed.A pilot test assembly of polypropylene mould for double face electrode fabrication was designed and manufactured. The large piece electrode was fabricated, on which Pb was electroplated on one side of iron and Fe/Fe3O4/β-PbO2/α-PbO2was plated on the other side. The prepared electrode were cut into small ring electrodes and assembled into armament batteries for the field test. The results are satisfactory.
