This thesis combined the key scientific and research project of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China,’The Study of the Design Theory of the Extruder Screw’, proceed the study and design of the Reciprocating Pin Screw Extruder. The Reciprocating Pin Screw Extruder has become an important continuous compounding machine in the polymer industry. In this machine a modular screw with interrupt flights rotates and oscillates in a barrel with pins, which both induce mixing and wipe the flights. The machine itself is well know for low pressure, low temperature rise, low shear and high compound quality and has had application in process of various materials.Based on the study and design of the WXJ-140Reciprocating Pin Screw Extruder, the structure of the screw and the design method is introduced, the design and arrange principle of the pins is given, the mixing mechanisms of new four flight mixing element is specially studied. Mixing result of the Reciprocating Pin Screw Extruder is compared with that of Co-rotating Twin Screw Extruder and Series Disc Screw Extruder. The non-linear viscoelastic characteristics of molten thermoplastics in screw channel was study and simulated. Non-linear viscoelastic effects are considered using a Convected Maxwell model. The three-dimensional model of the driving system and the extrusion system are built and the computer dynamic simulation of complex motion of all parts was made. The result indicate that interference between screw and pin is not occurred. Furthermore, the theory model, the design and setting of screw elements and pin are checked.
