Abstract:Tungsten plays an important role in national production and life. China reserves the most tungsten ore in the world, which is an important dominant nonferrous metal. Tungsten ore exploiting and processing are of important strategy significance. A great amount of tungsten tailing is produced from tungsten ore dressing, which accounts for more than90%of raw ore because of tungsten low grade. Now, most of tungsten tailing is stockpiled on the earth’s surface or filled in the mine, which occupys a lot of land, pollutes environment and wastes resource. These restrict seriously the sustainable development of mine. Study on comprehensive utilization of tungsten tailing is urgent and of economic and environmental significance.In this paper, features of tungsten tailing are researched by mineral material characterization methods. Highly processed tungsten tailing powders are attained by ultra fine processing and surface modified. These powders are used to produce green building materials and polymer padding, aimed to utilize comprehensively tungsten tailing.Tungsten tailing mainly includes garnet, quartz and other complex mineral composition. The minerals embed each other closely and have smooth surface. Tungsten tailing has table chemistry property, fairly good thermal stability, no harmful composition and many surface hydroxyls. Particle size of tungsten tailing is small.Different ultra fine processing methods are used to process tungsten tailing. Mill-classification is the most efficient and energy conservation method, which can produce1250mesh product with350kg/h. After valuing the effect of different surface modified agent on tungsten tailing, aluminic acid ester is chose as the best modified agent, which has the activation index more than60%and the best dosage of1.2%.Tungsten tailing can be used in green building material by suitable activation and limited mix proportion. When tungsten tailing is used in cement admixture, mortar strength decreases with the increasing of mix proportion. The product meets the standard of PO.42.5with the mix proportion of20%, while the product meets the standard of PO.32.5with the mix proportion of30%. When tungsten tailing is used in concrete admixture, the product meets the standard of C30with the mix proportion less than20%. When tungsten is tailing used in polymer padding, the product meets the national standard of plastic tube with the fill proportion of60%, and the most fill proportion can reach120%. Different ingredient experiments of tungsten tailing/PVC plastic tube are carried out at plant. When tungsten tailing takes place of calcium powder partly or entirely, the productive process is normal, and the product property is good. Study on comprehensive utilization of tungsten tailing can guide tungsten tailing large scale utilization, and provide reference for other tailing.
