Abstract:At present, the stock volumes of tailings is large and which existed in many different kinds of types in China. These tailings will not only pollute the eco-environment and waste the land resources, but also existed as a security risk, which will lead to a waste of mineral resources eventually. How to deal with these tailings has become an urgent problem, traditional methods such as constructing tailings dam and backfilling mined-out area can consume large volumes of tailings. While resource utilization of tailings has been more popular in which producing eco-friendly bricks with tailings has received focus attention. In this paper, chemical elemental analysis, particle size analysis and XRD diffraction analysis of iron and bauxite tailings was conducted and we utilized them as the main materials to produce non-fired and steamed-free bricks. The main research results are as follows:(1) The optimum forming water and forming pressure was11%and20MPa, respectively, when iron tailings was used to produce bricks. The optimum cement content and consumption of iron tailings was15%and85%, respectively. Unconfined compressive strength for7d and28d of bricks with iron tailings can achieve15.06MPa and18.53MPa, respectively, when the amount of1%calcium chloride was added, which reached MU15.(2) The optimum forming water was12.5%when utilizing combined tailings to practice non-fired and steamed-free bricks. The optimum cement content, consumption of iron tailings and consumption of bauxite tailings was20%、50%and30%. Unconfined compressive strength for28d of bricks with combined tailings can achieve16.37MPa, which reached MU15.(3) The experiment also studied properties of non-fired and steamed-free bricks:brick density level, water absorption, saturation coefficient, frost resistance, resistance to softening, alkali resistance, which are in line with the national standard.
