With increasingly strict requirements of polymer materials, people require materials tohave both excellent flame retardant properties and good mechanical properties. Thematerials with halogen-free flame retardants are the current and future trends.Melamine-based flame retardants are currently the largest usage amount of halogen-freeflame retardants on the market, but this kind of flame retardants has a poor compatibilitywith materials, and should be added into the materials with a large number, which leads toa significant decrease in the mechanical properties of materials. Therefore, its applicationscope is limited. Polymer flame retardant is a new type of flame retardants developed inrecent years, this kind of flame retardants has good dispersions, not easy to frost, andexcellent mechanics performances. Inspired, we have had the traditional melamine-basedflame retardant modified and made it into the polymer melamine-based flame retardant. This kind of flame retardants have the advantages of the traditional melamine-based flameretardants and polymer flame retardant, which can effectively overcome the shortage oftraditional melamine flame retardants. In this paper, four kinds of polymer melamine-based flame retardants were designedand synthesized by the reaction of melamine, paraformaldehyde, cyanuric acid, polyphosphate, phosphate and boric acid as the basic raw materials. They are polymermelaminecyanurate PMCA, polymer melamine polyphosphate PMPP, polymer melaminephosphate PMP and polymer melamine borate. The reaction conditions were discussed andthe optimum parameters were determined. The structure of product was characterized byFTIR and elemental analysis, the results show that the product structure is consistent withthe desired products. Their thermal degradation behaviors were studied by TG/DTA, theresults indicate that the thermal stability of the products is excellent. At the same time, westudy the application effect of the PA6/PP with the products, the results show that PA6withdifferent content of products has more excellent flame retardancy and mechanicalproperties than PP with different content of products.
