Butanol and octanol are important chemical raw materials and were used veryextensively. Currently, the most important production method is oxo-synthesis process,particularly the low pressure oxo-synthesis process was used by many enterprises. With theincrease in demand and production of butanol and octanol, the emission of butanol andoctanol wastewater was also increased. Butanol and octanol wastewater has high COD,complex composition, strong alkaline characteristics and contains butyraldehyde, butanol andother organic matter. Butanol and octanol wastewater has damage to environment andhuman health.Classification by ultrafiltration and resin were used to grade the component of pollutantsin wastewater. The result showed that the organics in wastewater was mainly the fraction withmolecular weight less than1kDa, having a percentage of82.14%. The UV absorption spectraof wastewater under different molecular was approximately similar, the waster has an obviousabsorption peak in the range of260~270nm related to humus. The result ofthree-dimensional fluorescence measurement showed that there was a significant fluorescencepeak at λex/λem=315/385. The result up to DOC of resin classification showed that therewere four Components: HON, HOA, HIS and HOB with an order HON> HOA> HIS> HOB.The ultraviolet absorption performed a same distribution with DOC distribution.Three-dimensional fluorescence spectrums of the components varied greatly. HON has themaximum fluorescent substance and there were four fluorescence peaks at λex/λem=250/450,230/375,275/395,290/360nm.Purge and trap-GC/MS for the determination of volatile organic compounds inwastewater was established. The optimal conditions are: the water sample volume of5ml, pHof alkaline, purge time of15min, purge flow of100ml/min, desorption temperature of230℃, desorption time of4min, desorption flow rate of200ml/min, split ratio of5:1, the inlettemperature of180℃, under the condition,28kinds of organic matter in wastewater weredetected qualitatively.13kinds of the main organic including acetone, iso-butanol, n-butanol,3-hexyl kDaetone,2-hexanone and n-octanol were selected to quantitative analysis. Thismethod has a excellent accuracy, the detection limit of each substance ranges from0.1893~2.5147μg/L, the recovery rate were between52.90%~118.96%.Liquid-liquid extraction-GC/MS for the determination of semi-volatile organiccompounds in wastewater was established. The result showed that27kinds of organic matterin wastewater can be detected qualitatively. The quantitative analysis result of13kinds oforganic showed that relative standard deviation of seven sets of parallel samples of each component was less than1.983%, the detection limits were between0.0621~1.0925mg/L, therecovery rate of the compounds were different and ranged from20.29%to105.01%.Isobutyric and butyric acid, n-valeric acid and cyclohexanone in wastewater weredetected by Ion chromatography at the best chromatographic condition. The result showedthat at the concentration of eluent being5mmol, isobutyric, butyric acid and n-valeric acidcould be separated and detected well and cyclohexanone could be detected well at the theconcentration of eluent being30mmol. Four kinds of acid were analysised in quantitative andthe reliability of the method was verified. The result showed that the method has a goodprecision, the detection limits were isobutyrate acid of0.032mg/L, butyric acid of0.012mg/L, n-valerate of0.056mg/L and formic acid and cyclohexanone of0.080mg/L, recoveryrate of each acid was up to93%.The quantity and quality analysis of the components and characteristics of pollutants inwastewater will help to grasp the emission characteristics of butyl-octanol device wastewaterfor further, which can provide the basis for recycling organics, selecting treatment process andthe design parameters, and according to which can establish the method for tracking andmonitoring the wastewater.
