High molecular weight polyacrylic acid(PAA) was synthesized by UV polymerization. Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) film was prepared by blending with polyacrylic acid (PAA). PAA/PVA blend film was crosslinked by high temperature heating treatment.The result showed that the water resistance was improved as the molecular weight and the content of PAA increased.But The performance of water-resistance did not improved when the content of PAA increased to50%, The oxygen barrier property and mechanical property of PVA/PAA blend film were Investigated, and the oxygen barrier property decreased and mechanic performance increased as PAA content increased.The film was treated in the heating temperature range of160~200℃,with a surtain time range of3-15min. Water-resistance,water absorption and hydrophilicity changed with the temperature and time. If a certain retention rate was needed, it need longer time in a lower temperature, and a shorter time in a higher temperature. Water absorption and hydrophilicity were decreased after heating treatment.The chemical structure,glass transition temperature and mechanic performance were also studied by FTIR,and DSC. Intermolecular or intramolecular hydrogen bond formed, and esterification happened between-OH and-COOH, a three-dimensional network structure formed in the film at last.Only one Tg was obtained, it showed that the compatibility of PAA and PVA was very well, and the Tg of blend film was up to102℃, which expand the application range. PET material surface could coated by PVA/PAA solution, and the coat could act as a functional coating.
