Roller is a critical part of steel enterprise and consumptive product weighed dozensof tons. The processing accuracy and smoothness have a decisive influence to the regularfunction of rollers and the quality of steel tubes. Up to now, there is no dedicated systemfor rollers processing in China. As the development of steel industry, the demand forrollers is increasing. It has also been a focus to develop roller processing algorithmperforming well in both quality and efficiency.Based on the geometrical characters of the grooved surface, it is feasible to create thesurface model in parametric method. Taking the actual dedicated machining tool intoconsideration, the solution to the Pilger-roller processing is planned. And this solutionintegrated the ideas of partition processing and helix processing. The tool-path generatedby this algorithm is smooth. This solution has been applied to actual production and metthe commercial requirements for the accuracy and efficiency.For the possibility of collision happened in the manufacturing, an algorithm ispresented to detect and avoid the interference. This algorithm is based on the SeparatingAxis Test Theory. After the construction of OBB models for the grooved surface and thecutters, Separating Axis Test Theory is adopted to judge the interference between cuttersand workpiece. And the interfaced triangular facets are found. Through the intersectioncomputation between basic graphic elements, the actual intersection situations betweentools and facets become clear. Thus the jump height could be calculated and the cutter islifted by the calculated height along tool axis direction. And in this way, theinterference-free tool path is guaranteed.The automatically-processing Software is developed to meet the demand ofPilger-roller processing in efficiency and automation. This software realizes the associateddevelopments of multi-language and multi-platforms. Compared with the conventionalmethods, this software makes the online programming visualized and efficient, simplifiesoperational process, and makes the generation of G codes quicker and more convenient.This software plays a significant role in the actual manufacture.
