Five harmful elements in low alloy steel (Pb, Sn, As, Sb, Bi) have adverse effectson the performance of the steel. It is very difficult to detect the effects because of theextremely low amount of these five elements in low alloy steel and mutualinterference among the ingredients. There are many methods to analyze five harmfulelements by hydride atomic absorption spectrometer, but most of them need to addmasking agent with the purpose of eliminating interference and reducing the signal ofanalysis element. In addition, trival detection process, big workload, long testingperiod are attributed to the limitation of the methods. The present work useinductively coupled plasma source mass spectrometer(ICP-MS)to measure the Pb、Sn、As、Sb、Bi in in low alloy steel, so set up a kind of fast and accurate method toanalyze five harmful elements in low alloy steel.In the experiment, acid dissolution method and microwave digestion system wereadopted to dissolve the sample and by contrast, the acid dissolution method wasemployed as sample dissolution methods. The work used hydrochloric acid and nitricacid to dissolve the sample, selected75As,118Sn,121Sb,208Pb,209Bi as isotope ofthe the analytic element and added the rhodium internal standard and iron base tocalibrate the influence of matrix effect on the result. Experimental results show that:the correlation coefficient of the calibration curves of Pb, Sn, As, Sb, Bi was above0.999; relative standard deviation (n=10) was0.018%,0.0094%,0.026%,0.036%,0.048%; detection limits were:0.00002%,0.00007%,0.0001%,0.00009%,0.00001%;recoveries rate were:98.9%,100.3%,99.0%,96.6%,100.5%, respectively. Therepeated experiment demonstrated that the method is simple and easy to operateduring sample dissolution process. Moreover, the period of experimental analysis isshort and the accuracy and precision of analysis can meet the analytical requirements.
