In this paper, the LD10aluminum alloy friction plug welding and welding frictionplug welding repair welding process was investigated. Using SEM、X-ray diffraction、micro-hardness test, etl. to analysis variation for organizations and performance offriction plug welds. The defect types of friction plug welding and the causes wereanalyzed. The LD10aluminum alloy friction plug welding process parameters wasdetermined. The process parameters friction plug welding repair welding after weldingwas optimized to ensure the quality of the weld.LD10aluminum alloy plate and aluminum stopper were used to do the study offriction plug welding. The angle of friction plug welding rods and plates、friction time、friction velocity and friction pressure were chose to do orthogonal experiment. Theexcellent welding parameters is that the angle (rod/plate) is55/50、the welding speedis130mm/min、welding time of friction is1.0s、the friction pressure is39kN、therotational speed is4000rps. Using the above welding parameters on the3mm and4mmLD10plate, the quality welds is good. The joint strength can be up to80%of the basematerial strength. The quality of weld meet the strength requirements of weld gradeⅠ.Using metallographic, X-ray diffraction, SEM and other analytical tools found thatthe weld defects include the top of the Stopper is not welded together、the bottom of theStopper is not welded together、the middle of the Stopper is not welded together、inclusions. The effective measures which reduce the defects were preliminary analyzed.The LD10aluminum alloy which thickness is3mm and4mm were weld byvariable polarity TIG welding, then repair welded by friction plug welding. Theexcellent welding parameter is used. The results show that: The microstructure of plugwelding head is smoothly transition. The grain size of the weld zone is fine. Microhardness of weld is the same with friction stir welding. The interface fracture mode isductile. The strength level of plug weld is same with friction stir welding. The weld offriction plug welding fully meets with the request of repair welding.
