Mould is the basis of industrial development, which is indispensable forming tool for newproduct research, development and achieving mass production. Cr12MoV steel is the mostwidely used one of the cold working die steel, which holds a very important position in modernindustrial applications. Cr12MoV steel has a higher demand for heat treatment technology andhot working process because of its higher strength and hardness, good wear resistance, poortoughness, if unreasonable method is adopted, it will easily give rise to the failure of mould.Empirical and semi-empirical methods were adopted in the development of the traditional heattreatments, which can cause great expense of time and costs and can not precisely control thequality. With the development of computer technology and appearance of new simulation,numerical simulation has been drawing more attention during heat treatment process.In present paper, the object of research is Cr12MoV steel. Based on the technical route oftheory, simulation and experiments, theories of Metallo-thermo-mechanics were applied to thequenching and tempering process of Cr12MoV steel. The temperature field, microstructure fieldand stress field of Cr12MoV steel in heat treatment were predicted.Research on temperature field of Cr12MoV steel. The influence of deformation heat, latentheat and nonlinear parameters were considered comprehensively. The temperature change afterheat treatment for Cr12MoV steel was predicted. The cooling curves of sample surface andcenter were obtained by acquisition system to verify the temperature change of heat treatmentprocess.Research on microstructure field of Cr12MoV steel. The distribution of microstructure andhardness during the quenching and tempering were predicted. And the simulation results wereverified.Research on stress field of Cr12MoV steel. The variation of residual stress and deformationin the different heat treatment conditions were obtained. And the deformation of simulation wasverified by using image measuring instrument.Finally, based on the above results, the finite element model that can optimize the heattreatment parameters of Cr12MoV steel was built.
