The existing abrasion resistance research is mainly concentrated on the differenterosion conditions of individual materials, but the comparison among them is less.Inthis paper, the erosion mechanism of Q235steel,alumina,silicon carbide products, silicon carbide cermet were compared.With2~3mm brown corundum particles as theabrasing substance, the investigation were carried out on the erosion mechanismsunder different erosion angle, particle speed and erosion time. The result shows that:1, In the erosion process, alumina ceramic, silicon carbide product revealed typicalbrittle materials Erosion mechanism, but the way of the initiation and developing of thecrack was different.2,Q235steel showed the typical plastic material Erosion mechanism in theErosive process. The volume erosion rate is increased rapidly as the erosion angle is,and there is no lip by abrasive shock.3,The erosion mechanisms of silicon carbide cermet is almost the same asalumina ceramic, where the similar radical cracks and the flack shelling caused byTransverse cracks can be found.4. Incubation period is existed in the erosion process for each of homogeneousmaterial, that is mainly because of the quantity and length of the cracks, the roughnessof the eroded surface.5.The erosion mechanism of silicon carbide products may provide reference forsilicon carbide cermet. The ability of the erosive resistance, especially cutting erosive resistance, could be increased when larger particles aggregate existed in the sample.6.It was revealed that product with constructure of aggregates and max likesilicon carbide product bears higher abrasive resistance inside the body than on thesurfaces. Therefore the volume erosion rate of the product was decreased as the erosiontime was increased, meaning that enough erosion time is needed for the obtaining of thetrue abrasive resistance for a product,or it must be obtained from the erosion test on thecut surfaces.
