The sedimentation performance of activated sludge has an important influence tothe success operation of this process, sludge bulking is one of the most often reasonwhich lead to a failure of a activated sludge process. The sludge sedimentation rate,sludge volume index and other physical parameters are adopted as the standard forevaluation of the sludge sedimentation performance normally. As the great process intechniques, we have got a new further understanding of activated sludge, however, theformation of the activated sludge can be found is a biological process, and therefore canbe found through the relevant research related to biological indicators, thus for activatedsludge assessment more objective, more real.This article through to the EPS samples with different sedimentation performanceof activated sludge cell fluorescence characteristics analysis of metabolites, such as,respectively, using special point for regional integration method, the peak method suchas processing three dimensional fluorescence spectra, combining with the sludgesedimentation performance, analysis of these indicators and the relationship between thesedimentation performance, in order to establish the relevant biological indicators, toevaluate sedimentation performance of activated sludge.Articles at the same time usingtwo laboratory conditions of SBR reactor operation, the contrast research by adjustingthe feed way, adjust the way of the concentration gradient of the water improvement ofthe method of settlement.This study obtained the main results were as follows:(1)Activated sludge produced in the process of metabolism of fulvic acid (Fluvic),Humic acid (Humic), soluble metabolites (SMP), Protein (Protein) as the active sludge SVI from began to grow to more than150mL/g, or even higher, all kinds of material ofthe fluorescence intensity is also changing, it can be seen that activated sludgemetabolites can reflect the state of the activated sludge, so you can through to theactivated sludge monitoring and related metabolites and indirectly reflect the processrunning status of the activated sludge process for monitoring operation mode provides anew way of thinking;(2) Using three dimensional fluorescence spectrum scan extracted microbialmetabolites, can be found under different sedimentation performance of activatedsludge corresponds to the fluorescence intensity of different metabolites. For SVI is lessthan150mL/g sludge, the TB-EPS of protein substances, soluble metabolites, humicacid, fulvic acid metabolites, such as the fluorescence intensity of fluorescence intensitywere higher than2000AU,3000AU,260AU,400AU, and LB-EPS the fluorescenceintensity of these material is5000AU,3000AU, respectively440AU,260AU, whenSVI is higher than150mL/g the fluorescence intensity of all kinds of metabolites wereless than the given value, so it can evaluate the activated sludge through metabolites;(3) In the activated sludge sedimentation performance and microbial metabolitesfluorescence intensity diagram, SVI is150mL/g of activated sludge safety operationcurve and microbial metabolic state under a certain fluorescence intensity curve can bedivided into four regions, will be the whole relationship in this diagram, SVI is less than150mL/g point, namely the activated sludge sedimentation performance good sludgealways corresponds to the high metabolic product of fluorescence intensity, but there isno sludge settling performance difference corresponds to a lower state of metabolites offluorescence intensity;(4) To have a serious, the expansion of the filamentous bacteria in activated sludgesystem by changing the way the water, adjust the substrate concentration gradientcaused by the water, can inhibit the filamentous bacteria continue to proliferate, andactivated sludge expansion has serious problems, found in test for parallel operation ofthe two reactors, the increased water mixing and provide different mode, and into thewater mixing system sludge settling performance remains in a relatively good state, SVIis controlled in150mL/g, even become low, and the water after stirring reactor sludge serious erosion, eventually sludge concentration below1000mg/L, and the sludge SVIabove200mL/g, sludge settling performance did not improve.
