As one of the most important parts of the machine, the impact that is from static and dynamic characteristics of feed system on the machining quality and efficiency is very significant. Traditional analog and experience design approach is difficult to achieve the required machine dynamic performance, so the method of dynamic analysis and dynamic design must be used. When analyzing the feeding system dynamic performance, the method combining theoretical modeling and dynamic characteristics test is usually used. The dynamic characteristics of the various mechanical joints is calculated mainly by the test measuring or relevant data accumulated by tests; while the mode shapes and natural frequency of the overall dynamics equivalent model of feed system is mainly calculated by the finite element method. The feed system of diamond wire cutting machine tool has a special structure that ordinary machine do not have, the existing research on it remains to be deepened. This paper draw existing research results and do a special study of dynamic performance of a diamond wire cutting feed system developed by our group and a company.First, combining with the specific structure of the diamond wire cutting feed system, this paper establish overall kinetic model based on the theory of dynamically modeling machine structure. To sport joint surface, such as ball screws, linear motion guide and rolling bearings, their equivalent dynamic model is build by view three as a whole; to fixed class bolted joint surface, their dynamic model is consistent; to clamping cylinders joint surface, its dynamic model is establish by analogizing with air springs analogy. Besides, modal analysis and properly optimization are carried out to support base and feed plate.Secondly, the equivalent dynamic parameters of each joint surface have been calculated in detail. To ball screws, linear guides and bearings, the three’s equivalent stiffness and damping is computed as a whole; to bolted fixed combination of surface, Takashi Yoshimura combination of surface area integration method is used; to clamping cylinder, the air state equation and aerodynamic equivalent are used to derive its analytical solution. Finally, the finite element model of Diamond Wire Saw machine’s feed system is build in ANSYS and its mode shapes and natural frequencies are calculated based on equivalent dynamical model and parameters. Then the dynamic response of feed system has been get by applying external periodic excitation line with the actual conditions. Dynamic performance test has been carried on to verify the correctness of the finite element simulation results. On the basis of the feed system modal analysis, the weak links in the system are found to be optimized.
