Fe-loaded attapulgite heterogeneous Fenton catalyst were prepared by impregnation. In orderto confirm the optimum reaction condition, the main effects on the reaction were investigated byexperiments. Results showed that the optimum conditions for preparation of the attapulgite catalystwere as follows: the concentration of FeCl3was1mol/L, the ratio of liquid(the volume of FeCl3) tosolid(attapulgite mass) was10:1, impregnated temperature was80°C,and impregnated time was3h.Under the optimum conditions, the amount of iron on attapulgite catalyst was183.3mg/g, Theremoval rate of phenol,TOC was99.2%,62.16%.The results showed that the impregnatedattapulgite is a kind of good catalyst degrading phenol wastewater.Surface morphologies and crystalline phases of loaded iron attapulgite have been analyzed bySEM,FT-IR,and XRD.Characterization indicated that the effect of FeCl3soaking crushed theattapulgite catalyst particles. After being modified with iron, the rod-like crystals of attapulgitebecame shorter, and the various aggregates derived from the accumulation became looser. FT-IRand XRD peaks simultaneously indicated that the crystal structure of attapulgite don’t change. The catalyst adsorption performance was tested. they were found which loaded iron processwas not blocking the attapulgite channel. The phenol removal rate increased from6.7%to11.6%and the phenol removal rate increased from4.5%to5.2%.This article also researched the catalytic performance of the attapulgite catalyst. The optimumreaction conditions were that the initial concentration of simulated phenol wastewater500mg/L(thevolume is50ml), the dosage of catalyst (the amount of iron on resin183.3mg/g)14g/L, the initialconcentration of H2O2196mmol/L, pH=6~7,The removal rate of phenol and TOC was99.2%,62.16%respectively under the optimum conditions. And in the pH range of2~10, thedegradation effect of phenol, TOC were ideal. Therefore, the reaction was to broaden the scope ofapplication of the pH.Attapulgite catalyst successfully prilled with the condition of400°C calcinations. The abovecatalyst still displayed good removal rate performance after eight runs, indicating the catalyst wasstill active in the reaction process. And the dissolution of iron was only about0.4%of total iron, showing the catalyst had good stability during the reaction, and the reaction would not producelarge amounts of iron sludge.
