Ultra high pressure tubular reactor is the key equipment to product high pressurepolyethylene in petrochemical industry. This reactor’s working condition was extremely poor.It had long been affected by high temperature, high pressure, thermal shock loads and corrosiveworking media. Its ultimate capacity would inevitably be affected. Once the tube wall rupture,it may cause explosion, the high temperature fluid inside the tube will cause burns to peoplearound. While the fluid inside the tube is mixture of polyethylene and ethylene, encounteringan ignition source can easily lead to a fire or even explosion. So it is essential to research theultimate bearing capacity of reactors.The paper was based on the LDPE ultra pressure tubular reactor under service. We gotstress distribution and burst pressure of the UHP reactor under pressure effect according toexperiments. We analyzed the influence of burst pressure values of the geometric dimensionsand materials according to nonlinear finite element analysis. We got the reactor’s burst pressureby four theoretical calculation methods at last.Internal pressure loading test had been done on UHP reaction tube, obtained the stress-strain curve. The reaction blasted under internal pressure, and we got the burst pressure values.The bend tube’s burst pressure was930MPa, the straight tube’s burst pressure was878MPa.Nonlinear finite element analysis was used to calculate the burst pressure, and the bendtube’s burst pressure was960.09MPa, the straight tube’s burst pressure was960.10MPa. Andthen we analyzed the influence of burst pressure values of the geometric dimensions andmaterials. The result was that burst pressure related with diameter ratio K, tensile strength,radius of curvature, had nothing to do with the length of tube.Burst pressure values had been got by using Faupel Formula, Huang Zaisheng Formula,Chen Zhiping-Huang Zaisheng Formula, Zhu Xuezheng-Chenguoli Formula.
