Research for flow field in filtering hydrocyclone was conducted in the commercialComputational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) software, FLUENT, with the RNG k-ε model.Through the combination of the three dimensional porous media model andone-dimensional porous media model, the liquid-solid flow field in filtering hydrocyclonewas obtained. The velocity field, the pressure field, the filtered stream and the separationefficiency in the filtering hydrocyclone with different structure parameters in differentoperation parameters were analysised especially. The analysis results show that the flowinside the filtering hydrocyclone can be divided into four types of obvious flow form,namely the spiral flow, the outside helical flow, the circulation flow and the filtering flow.The liquid solid separation is engine mainly by the rotating centrifugal field. As to pressurefield, there is a zonal area of low pressure, where solid particles gather, which isadvantageous to the separation of solid particles. With the increase of inlet flow, the porousmedia model, the pressure drop and the filtration flow rate enhances unceasingly. With theincrease of bottom flow rate, the liquid-solid separation efficiency improves, but thepressure drop and the filtration flow rate has been reduced. With the increase of Angle, theliquid-solid separation efficiency and the pressure drop decreases, while the filtration flowrate declines. When the porous medium layer resistance coefficient increases within anorder of magnitude, the flow field changed small. With the increase of solid particle size,the liquid-solid separation efficiency enhances unceasingly, the influence on the pressuredrop and the filtration flow is not big. Compared with the hydrocyclone, the filteringhydrocyclone has the advantages of low energy consumption and high efficiency.
