SiC-based ceramic has many excellent performances, and processes promisingapplication prospect.however, the field of using of SiC ceramic has been limited by its highbrittleness.Steel metal having high strength and toughness,so the development in thejoining of SiC-based ceramic to dissimilar materials such as steel is of great significance.At present, it is difficult to obtain satisfactory joint with the general brazing methods andprocesses. This paper adopts the vacuum brazing and the vacuum diffusion welding andrealize the joining of SiC ceramics to steel. In the meantime,using various test methodsincluding X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray energyspectrum (EDS), and universal mechanical tester investigate the strength of the jointobtained by using different interlayer and The joining mechanism of different methodsThis article metallized the surface of SiC ceramics firstly. And analysis the elementchanges during electroless nickel plating and the influence of the temperature on thechemical copper plating and nickel plating, and the properties of the two layer are studiesunder the different temperature. Furthermore confirm the optimum chemical platingtemperature; Testing the two layer,s thickness and adhesion, finding the copper coating,sthickness is20microns, and binding force is35Mpa under the best formula,and the nickelcoating,s thickness is21microns and the binding force is42Mpa.The joining body of SiC ceramic and stainless steel is obtained by vacuum diffusionwelding method and the copper and nickel alloy as the interlayer, but the low vacuumdegree and pressure lead to the joining body can’t completely contact and binding force islow. When pressure of3MPa,1h under860℃heat preservation, the binding force of thejoint is15.4MPa.SiC ceramic and stainless steel joint is obtained by vacuum diffusion welding methodand the hot-dip zinc alloy as interlayer.The joint,s strength mainly depends on thecombination strength of the chemical plating layer and the SiC ceramic substrate. Under thepressure of3MPa,340℃heat preservation45min, the joint,s strength can reach19.8MPa.Join ceramic and stainless steel by adopting the method of vacuum brazing withAg45CuNi solder.In the joint, the ceramic and the solder form nickel and silver based solid solution. Under850℃heat preservation for15min, obtain the connection strength of96.7MPa; Connect substrate,s bending strength increased by22%than pure SiC ceramics.
