Terpene resin was prepared from α-pinene or β-pinene which the main component of turpentine with supported heteropoly acids as catalysts. The main research methodes and results are as follows:1) Two kinds of catalysts were prepared using silica and activated carbon as carriers to carry active component phosphotugstic acid. In order to acknowledge these new catalysts’structure between before reaction and after reaction, special techniques of FT-IR,1H-NMR, XRD, XPS were used and it showed that the crystal structure of the heteropoly anion was not destroyed during reaction.2) Cationic polymerizaton of (3-pinene with silica and activated carbon supported phosphotungstic acid (PW12/Si02) and (PW12/C) as homogeneous catalyst was investigated. Through the study of different reaction conditions, determined the best conditions:①volume of β-pinene3mL,1,2-dichloroethane7mL, the amount of PW12/SiO2catalyst dehydrated at200℃for0.5h is0.6g (supported amount60%), polymerization temperature at-20℃, reaction time is1h, the polymer product yield obtained was84.8%. the average number molecular weight of terpene resin is above1000.②volume of (3-pinene3mL,1,2-dichloroethane7mL, the amount of PW12/C catalyst dehydrated at200℃for0.5h is0.6g (supported amount34.2%), polymerization temperature at0℃, reaction time is2h, the polymer product yield obtained was77.0%. the average number molecular weight of terpene resin is about860. The techniques of FT-IR、1H-NMR、GPC、GC、GC-MS were used to characterize terpene resin and isomerization products.3) Cationic polymerizaton of a-pinene with activated carbon supported phosphotungstic acid (PW12/SiO2) as homogeneous catalyst was investigated. Using FT-IR、1H-NMR、GPC、GC-MS to characterize terpene resin and isomerization products. Through the study of different reaction conditions, determined the best conditions:that is volume of a-pinene3mL,1,2-dichloroethane7mL, PW12/Si02catalyst dehydrated at200℃for1h is0.6g (supported amount50%), polymerization temperature at55℃, reaction time is1h, the polymer yield obtained was43.2%. The average number molecular weight of terpene resin is about680.
