Solid base catalyst, as a green catalyst, is widely used in biodiesel production. Cataluminescence depends on the catalytic oxidation between molecules with energy releasing to produce light radiation, and is related to the reaction of reactive intermediates that are generated in the process, as a result, it is often used to detect specific reaction producing reactive intermediates. There are many methods to detect and evaluate the performance of solid base catalyst, such as temperature programmed desorption, molecular probe method, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, titration, however, these methods have their own flaws. Therefore, using acetone as a molecular probe, combined with cataluminescence to evaluate the catalytic activity of solid base is fast, agile, and also, we discussed the mechanism of acetone cataluminescence, and applied the solid base to actual samples. The main findings are as follows:(1) Our esearch results showed the direct connections between the number of medium-strength basic sites of heterogeneous base catalysts in biodiesel production and cataluminescence intensity in acetone aldol condensation reactions. Accordingly, acetone cataluminescence has been employed as indicator for rapid evaluation of heterogeneous base catalysts in biodiesel production.(2) When we applied the green solid base catalyst, layered double oxide in the acetone cataluminescence system, strong cataluminescence signals was found. Under the optimized conditions, it has a wide linear range, the regression equation was△I=6.3878C-4.5723(R2=0.9907), where△I was the relative CTL intensity and C was the concentration of acetone, respectively. The detection limit for acetone (S/N=3) was0.02mM, with the good recoveries from98%to102%. The proposed acetone sensor has a better selectivity and stability without sample pretreatment, and also has a longer life span. The sensor in the sample detection process has advantages:fast, easy to operate, low in cost, and green.
