This paper studied the preparation and mechanical properties of Ionic polymer-metal composites (IPMC).IPMC is a kind of electroactive materials with the characteristics of low driving voltage and high power density. IPMCs have broad application prospects in biological applications and bionic fields. Ionic polymer membrane and the electrode on either sides consist of this materials. With the high price, Nafion is limited. In terms of IPMC electrode materials, precious metal electrode has good electrical conductivity, but expensive price and complex process limits its application and development. Therefore, researching on new type of ionic polymer and a new type of electrode to match is becoming a hot spot.This topic based on the structure of materials. The experiment has synthesized poly (vinyl acetate-co-acrylic)(P(VAc-co-AA)) by soap-free emulsion and sulfonated reaction synthesis of the sulfonated poly [styrene/(ethylene/propylene)/styrene](S-SEPS) and sulfonated poly [styrene/(ethylene/butene)/styrene](S-SEBS) polymers. The experiments studied the relationship between structures and performance of the three kinds of polymer to select the appropriate substrate material. Graphene as a nano filler has been used. This paper also discussed the content of graphene and the relationship between the material structure and performance.In the selection of electrode, polypyrrole is a new way of thinking on the electrode what belongs to the conductive polymer. Polypyrrole electrode has been prepared by chemical oxidation which enriched pyrrole monomer forming a relatively dense layer in the polymer substrate surface. The silver electrode has been prepared by the metal complex reduction process.This study through a variety of testing methods for conductive capabilities and actuating properties were tested.This article research work has been the National Natural Science fund project "The design of new Nano IPMC Synthesis and Mechanical and Electrical Performance Study"(Project Approval NO.:51063009) and Natural Fund Project of Beijing "Graphite reinforced IPMC artificial muscle preparation and properties of new materials Research"(Project Approval NO.:2092013).
