The topics of this paper is a project named Miaogou iron ore open pit slope stability evaluation assumed by Resources and Civil Engineering Mining Engineering institute of Northeastern University College. Although the expansion design of Miaogou open-pit can save resources and increase efficiency, the security and stability will be reduced. Therefore, the analysis and evaluation of its stability is very necessary. For slope-engineering, the key to study the stability of slope is that we should know the mechanical properties of rock. The complexity of the rock itself determine us to get the initial strength index only form point load testing on the rocks, obviously, for slope stability evaluation, this is far from sufficient. Therefore, the key of this study is the determination of rock’s strength index. To this end, we should grasp the stress distribution characteristics of the rock slope in order to know the key point of monitoring and research for slope-engineering. We would also understand the factors which effect rock slope’s stability. Then compared to the current common determination method about rock strength index, and determined the rock mechanics parameters program in project. That is we firstly sub-sampled for Miaogou iron ore to carry out point load test and velocity test, then determined rock basic quality level for each partition, finally we got the initial rock strength index utilized the general Hoek-Brown criterion after taking the rock mass disturbance case into account. The indicators are used as initial value in parameters inversion for once landslide area in Miaogou west slope, then we carried rock strength index anti-analysis on west0-wire slope by Geo-slope software and got the final mechanical index in case of coinciding site and safety factor of1.00. The mechanical parameters of other regions which would be used as the parameters in slope stability numerical simulation of Miaogou iron were determined by combining of point load test and velocity test. Current situation and expanded of two regions in west slope were respectively quantitative evaluated by applying Geo-slope and Flac-slope as well as the seepage analysis by Geo-seep. Then we know that the security and stability is poor and exist landslide hazard near0-wire and8-wire especially when saturated. Water drainage and necessary monitoring is necessary when expansion, in case the impact on slope stability in flood season, thus providing the theoretical basis and technical support for mine design.
