Methyl tert butyl ether (MTBE) as a gasoline to improve the octane number of gasoline blending agent has used for20years. MTBE has the advantages of high sensitivity, high octane number. In addition, MTBE had good compatibility with gasoline. So, MTBE has been the preferred gasoline blending agent to produce high performance gasoline.The methyl tert butyl ether (MTBE) device of Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum (Group) is a part of the Yang Zhuanghe refinery project. The device is in the passive construction in2006, completed in2009. In order to improve the economic benefit of the device. We studied the problem that how to improve the service life of the catalyst.This paper introduces the mechanism of synthesis of methyl tert butyl ether. We analyzed the effect of reaction temperature, raw material of sulfide, metal cations, alkaline substances, water content, C5content and Allyl alcohol ratio and other factors on the service life of catalyst. We adopt measures include that Optimization of operating conditions, gas fractionation unit to strictly control the quality of raw materials, operation conditions optimization, in order to reduce the production cost of the MTBE device and extend the service life of catalyst. Through optimization, the service life of the catalyst from12months up to22months.
