In recent years, the manufacturer of machine tools in China has achieved a progressivedevelopment, and the criteria from the market to mature excellent product became more andmore strict. But compared with similar foreign product, the recognition of some machinemanufacturing enterprises in our country is low. Also, with the homogeneous of machine toolmanufacturing and processing technologies, after the machinery manufacturing industrygradually into the "buyer’s market", Users in the purchase of machine tools changed from thepast purely functional needs into visual modeling, the use of many other needs. Such a shift isalso put forward higher requirements for machine tool design. Therefore, how to family-baseddesign and how the machine tool modelling to perform efficient machine design research anddevelopment, become a problem the enterprise need to consider now.TO build family-based product image needs to be effectively combined with relevanttheories of product identity(PI). Product identity pay more attention to the product’sexpressive force in front of users and the familial of enterprise products. In the digitalinformation technology, use digital design technology of machine tool design graduallybecome a focus of machine tool design. The emergence of digital design technology caneffectively implement each link of product design and improve the design efficiency anddesign quality. At present, the digital system bulid for machine tool modelling design is toolarge and general, The modelling of the machine tool industry design standards can be formed,but not effective against and according to the characters of a company’s culture and formed itsunique design standards and systems. Design for machine tool and machine tool based on theenterprise product image of the digital system to build the research in the domestic machinetool industry is less, and relatively vague. How to make each link cohesion penetration andbuild enterprise system of product image through digital technology is a problem of theenterprise growth need to pay attention.This topic to product identity theory (PI) as the research of the basic basis, in shenyangmachine tool group as a case study analysis of the machine tool, extract and integrate their shape characteristics of machine tool products, through the scale degree of machine toolmodelling constraints, formation of family-based modelling design, combined with digitaldesign technology to build its product image digital library system for the shenyang machinetool group, and applied it in the future machine tool modelling design research anddevelopment process.
