Continuous casting tundish plays a very important role in modern iron and steelproduction. To optimize the structure of the tundish, it is reasonable to control theflow of the molten steel, to prolong the retention period of molten steel in tundish,reduce slag and to improve the inclusion floatation removal plays an important role,a direct impact on the quality of casting billet. For new type of tundish structure,ensuring the rationality of the flow of molten steel in tundish, more conducive to themetallurgical function into full play.In this paper, a steel mills fourth-rate single induction heating tundish as theresearch object based on the structural feature of this new type of tundish, using themethod of the physical simulation and numerical simulation, the key to solve theconsistency of the tundish flow problem. In the hydraulics simulation experiment,using experimental method of "stimulus-response", to obtain the average residencetime of fluid in the tundish, analysis of piston flow in tundish, mixed flow anddistribution of dead area. By using numerical simulation software of flow field andtemperature field in the tundish were calculated, to optimize the structure of curtainson device.Water model experiments show,tundish without retaining wall structure,between front wall and back wall section there are serious short circuit flow, Steelfluid to flow of time is very short in the middle; front wall section is dead zone flowfield, the flow uniformity is poor. Outside using partial6°"pour八" retaining wallcurtains on device, and when the opening size of different flow guide hole on thewall, the boundary of the small square hole solution flow response time andintermediate flow response time, the average residence time of117.42s, comparedwith the generous hole scheme prolonging the17.32s. So, retaining wall are installedin the tundish and on its opening outside6°diversion holes, each flow is very good,molten steel in tundish for a longer time.Numerical simulation shows that, outside using "pour八" retaining wallcurtains on device, and above open partial6°diversion hole, the liquid steeltemperature uniformity in external flow and flow in the middle is the best.
