Hydropurification of CTA is an important process for PTA production, in which some impurities, e.g.4-CBA, are hydrogenated on Pd/C catalyst. A sampling and analysis method was developed to withdraw operation data from an industrial PTA hydrogenation reactor. These data was used to build a CTA hydrogenation kinetics in bed scale based on some kinetic study results obtained by our group.4-CBA was first hydrogenated to4-HMBA and then to p-TA.As a result, the apparent kinetic equations for the tandem hydrogenation of4-CBA to p-TA was as follows:The kinetic model was used to simulate hydrogenation in an industrial reactor. The results showed that hydrogen partial pressure and the catalyst activities are the key factors to determine the performances of the reactor. An optimized operation parameters was proposed to increase the reactor capacity. The reasons for deactivation of Pd/C catalyst were explored and a simple deactivation kinetic model was also built.
