In the study area of welding machines, specialized welding machines have certain application value, and are always hot areas. In the same time, the domestic specialized welding machine market is in short supply. Portable welding machine is a kind of specialized welding machine, applying in working areas unable to bring large equipments in. In spite of its huge value in both application and market, it is hardly studied in China.In this paper, focusing on the portability, the reliance of welder supply on AC220V is eliminated and the volume of welders is reduced both by using batteries to be the power supply of welding machines. The main circuit and control circuit can be driven only by DC24V to finish welding operation. This battery welding machine can complete welding operation on board, in mountains or power outages, which makes it potential to create considerable market value.In this paper, the background and future prospect of battery welding machine are analyzed, the operating principle of battery welding machine is described in detail. What is more, the improvement of inverter push-pull circuit, the options of switches, the increase in frequency, the design of transformer, other important components, drive control and protection circuit, are all done. The final test shows that battery welding machine has a good performance, including a duty cycle of60.8%, an load efficiency of85%, and a light and portable volume.
