Coal is very rich in China, but petroleum and natural gas reserves are insufficient. With the rapid development of china’s economy, how to optimize the energy structure and how to make more efficient use of coal resource, become the most important question. Because of its highest H/C ratio and wide range of sources, methane will be a potential alternative material for H2. Nowadays, integrated the process of coal pyrolysis with methane conversion get more and more attention.In this paper, Inner Mongolia Xinghe coal is utilized for the study. This progress can improve the tar yield and the quality of char. We analysis the tar, the gas and the char, and discuss the mechanism of SRMP. One possible reason for this is that the intermediate gas may have a positive effect on the pyrolysis process.To test this hypothesis, selected two kinds of mixed gas, carbon monoxide and water vapor, carbon dioxide and hydrogen, to simulate the intermediate gas of the reaction. Through the experiment, we found that both two mixed gas will improve the yield of tar. Adding catalyst will promote the transformation reaction of these gas, and the tar yield will decrease. This phenomenon proves that carbon monoxide and water vapor play an important role in improving the yield of tar, and these gas can improve the characteristics of char.
